Strengthening Broken or Damaged Teeth

Crowns are a popular dental treatment for those who have damaged or broken teeth. They can be used to strengthen a tooth that might otherwise be lost, and change its function and appearance.

Crowns are made from various materials, including porcelain and metal, and are known for their strength and durability. They look and function like natural teeth, making them an excellent option for those who want to restore their smile.

Proper care is essential to ensure the longevity of the crown, but with regular brushing and flossing, they can last 10 years or more.

In addition to their functional benefits, crowns can also improve the appearance of your teeth, giving you a more confident smile. Crowns are an excellent option that can provide long-lasting results.

How Dental Crowns Work

When a tooth experiences so much damage or decay that large portions of it must be removed, your dentist may use a dental crown to restore it.

Your dentist may also recommend a dental crown to restore a tooth after another dental procedure like a root canal. Dental crowns may also be used to attach bridges, to cover dental implants or for cosmetic reasons, such as to lighten a discoloured tooth.

The Crown Procedure

Placing a dental crown usually requires two appointments. At the first, your dentist prepares and takes an impression of the tooth which will be used to create a custom crown. While your crown is being made, you may be fitted with a temporary crown.

Once ready, you will return for a second appointment. Your crown will be placed and sculpted so that your bite and jaw movements function normally.
